In the Lake Saint-Jean area (Quebec), circular micro-depressions have been observed in soft layers of silt and fine sand composing the bottom of shallow ponds. Numerous small holes with a diameter of 10 to 20 mm and a depth of 10 mm are regularly spaced over nearly the whole bottom surface. They are made by tadpoles and are called tadpole holes.
