About the Cover
Cover Caption
Cover Photo: View along one of the individual ephemeral channels (width ~ 15m) comprising the Cooper Creek dryland anabranching river system in southwest Queensland, Australia. Not only are the banks composed of mud, which is one of the causes of the anabranching, but mud is depositing within the channel and lining the floor, hence the standing water two weeks after rain. Contrary to the published models, this system is not producing sand ribbons encased in fines, rather it is producing a sheet of homogenized mud—see the article by North et al. this issue.
