About the Cover

Cover Caption

Cover Photo: Net-depositional cyclic steps produced by a 16.5 h continuous hybrid saline/turbidity current in a laboratory flume. Top: Mosaic image of the flow as viewed through the flume sidewall during the test, with the hybrid current appearing greenish and the ambient water appearing blueish. Dark traces in the sediment bed reveal antecedent bed profiles with mild, short-wave bedforms before the cyclic steps actually formed. Bottom: Three-dimensional topography of the cyclic steps at the end of the test, obtained with a laser-scanning digital imaging technique. The superimposed translucent wireframe mesh is a sketch of the estimated position of the top interface of the current, as tracked on the sidewall images. The vertical scale of the top panel is undistorted, while that of the bottom panel is dilated by a factor of 2.
