The first comprehensive documentation of carbonate deposits in the Jurassic Navajo Sandstone reveals syndepositional paleohydrological processes, including tufa (spring) mounds that fed interdune lakes and disruption by sand fluidization events. Five types of mound-like structures are identified: tufa mounds, stromatolite mounds, tepee structures, draped small-scale topography, and accumulations around standing trees.
